When I drove my friend to Albany to see the Hotsy Totsy’s neon sign at night, he suggested that we stop for “dinner and a brew.” In that order. Meaning not starting at Hotsy Totsy, where my friend may or may not have been welcome on account of some ugliness in the past.
He likes Hawaiian Barbecue and I wasn’t hungry so it worked fine. I drove just a little north, into El Cerrito.
We then had a beer (he had a beer, I had a Diet coke) at the Blue Moon, a few doors away. We mused about the use of the word “moon” in the names of motels. We thought of a few, and then when we got home we spent some time searching and found these, the (other) Blue Moon, Desert Moon, Full Moon, Half Moon, Moon, Moon Glo, Moon Lite, Moon Winx, Moonbeam, Moonlight Bay, Moonlight Beach, Moonrise, Paper Moon, and Silver Moon.
There are too many songs with “moon” in the title to come up with the best. We chose one “moon song,” put it on, and searched for moon motels. We came up with:
We were pretty proud of ourselves. I showed him what the draft post looked like when I had sized the photos and alphabetized by name of motel and not figured out how to get them A to Z instead of Z to A.
“And then there is that sign with the cow jumping over the moon – we gotta get that one too!”
I knew what he was talking about, the Milk Farm sign in Dixon. Not today.
What about our evening’s work, inspired by the Blue Moon in El Cerrito?
