As you know, almost nobody from Berkeley says “Bezerkeley.” And even more almost nobody from the Bay Area says “Frisco.” Except my friend.
He came to San Francisco with his family in 1957, one of the last trips that he took with his family. He heard his dad say “Kids, we’re going to drive out to Frisco and see what it’s all about.” And so my friend has been unabashedly calling San Francisco “Frisco” since then. People don’t usually challenge him – they write him off as not worth a challenge – BIG mistake! – but if they do, he just says, “If Frisco bay was good enough for Otis Redding, it’s good enough for me.”
But, though, back to his family’s trip to San Francisco in 1957, which was his first visit to California. He has saved over the years the postcards he bought in 1957 during that first visit. Unlike many collectors and collections, he actually takes these postcards out with some regularity and looks at them.
