Gabby had been in Pittsburgh with Young Emily in November, 2013. She was attending a talk on South Slavic Tamburitza Bands. The tamburitza is a long-necked flute. What drew Young Emily to the instrument was the fact that the frets may be moved permitting the instrument to be played in various modes.
Gabby walked miles and miles of Pittsburgh, He loved the stairs. He loved the ethnic neighborhoods. He ate too much fried German food at Max’s Allegheny Tavern. He liked but didn’t love the Sarris chocolate. He spent a couple great hours at the Warhol Museum.
And over the course of three days he bought posters of giant insect movies from thrift stores and flea markets. He held on to the collection for a few years and was happy to send them to my friend upon hearing that I was working on the Peter Mitchell bugs. Here they are:
They are pretty cool. I have no idea what my friend will do with them. I don’t see them meshing well with his new Danish modern look. I asked him about the collection of photos of the posters here.
