I have not yet come to a satisfactory definition of a quirky garden

I know one when I see it, but I can’t define it.

And I know that two Definitely Quirky Berkeley gardens will be on the Garden Conservancy’s East Bay Open Day on Saturday, April 23.

Five gardens plus the two quirky Berkeley gardens are on the open day tour.  The two that I have written about are the gardens of Keeyla Meadows and Marcia Donahue.

Meadow’s garden is just inside Albany, just outside Berkeley, a fact which I more or less ignored in my post.  She is within throwing distance of Berkeley.  Literally.  Her garden is bright colors and her quirky sculpture.

Marcia Donahue is the spiritual center of Quirky Berkeley.  Bold statement!  Her garden, the result of 38 years of creative gardening, is the Notre Dame of quirky Berkeley.  Another bold statement!  My post on Donahue shows her garden and ceramics, which populate her garden

The mission of the Garden Conservancy is to save and share outstanding American gardens. They organize and co-sponsor lectures, symposia, Open Days, and garden tours across the country.

Ha! I amuse myself with legal language.  I have no dog in this hunt.  Quirky Berkeley sez go on this Open Day.  I can’t – big work obligation that day.  But I’d love to see these two gardens again and the other five. I envy your ability to go.
